I'm really sorry this isn't the answer you're looking for and I hope you manage to find the key in your old installation. Your only shot would be trying to find if that key is saved in your old installation if it's not showing in your bitlocker account, if not I'm afraid the data is lost and your only option would be to format the external drive to access it again (all data would be lost). SSH, might be in the bitlocker folder in appdata, I'm not sure exactly where they will be as I haven't used windows in years. If you have done a clean install, check inside c/:windows.old folder for hidden files in your old user directory, something like. Now the bad part, if the only copy of that key was placed on your encrypted external HDD by the old machine while it was unlocked, and you do not have access to that key (because you need to unlock it first to get the key, catch 22) then unfortunately you've locked yourself out forever. If the external drive was encrypted from the old PC, it means it will need the key it was encrypted with to unlock it. ![]()
